Why cellulose

Made largely from recycled paper, cellulose is dense, settles into irregular framing, and dampens sound. It’s one of the most cost-effective ways to bring an older attic up to R-38–R-60.

Best uses

Attic top-ups over existing insulation, filling stud cavities via dense-pack, and hard-to-reach areas. For moisture-prone crawl spaces, we usually recommend foam or batts instead.

R-value

Roughly R-3.2–R-3.8 per inch. We measure your current depth and add the right amount to hit target R-value.

Rebate eligibility

Attic top-ups frequently qualify for Energy Trust incentives. See if you qualify →

Cellulose Insulation — FAQs

Does cellulose settle over time?

It settles modestly; we account for that by installing to the correct depth so you keep your rated R-value.

Is cellulose treated for fire and pests?

Yes — quality cellulose is treated with borate, which resists fire, mold and insects.

Can you add cellulose over old insulation?

Usually yes, if the existing material is dry and uncontaminated. If it’s rodent- or water-damaged, we remove first — see removal & replacement.
